Skill Set Description
This skill set provides a set of skills to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment, including the skills to provide an emergency first aid response in the event of an emergency.

These units may provide credit towards a range of qualifications at Certificate IV and Diploma levels.

Specific licensing requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the relevant State/Territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.
Location
Public Courses are located at the North East Community House, 27-31 Queensborough Ave, Hillcrest SA 5086 or The ARC Campbelltown 531 Lower North East Road Campbelltown SA 5074. . Courses can be undertaken onsite at your workplace.
Course Fees
Public Course Fee for our blended option is $450pp and for our enhanced option is $250pp. Reduced rates apply for Group Bookings. Please contact Aqualife Training for more infomation.
Payment of course fees must be made prior to the course, unless upon the written discretion from Aqualife Training. If there are any unpaid fees at the time of the start of the course, the trainer may refuse entry to the course. Payment can be made (approved methods outlined within the issued invoice) may include credit card (Eway or MYOB payment merchant), direct transfer to bank account, cheque or cash. This skill set has been endorsed by industry as appropriate for people who are either employed in, or intending to become employed in, nominated occupational first aider roles.

Assessment Requirements
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
Assessment Activities
Assessed conducting during face-face training session(s) include:
You will be assessed on performing first aid scenario and task demonstrations for:
- Infant CPR
- Adult CPR & defibrillation & use of BVM
- Administer oxygen for the unconscious
- Administer oxygen for the conscious
- Check, maintain and clean equipment ready for future use
- Anaphylaxis & autoinjector
- Asthma & medication
- Choking
- Turning a casualty on his/her side
- Bleeding control & shock
- PIT for a snake/spider bite
- Rice for sprain
- Bandage & sling for fracture
- Verbal reporting, debriefing and evaluating
- Manage Infection control requirements
- Demonstrated safe manual handling techniques
- Conducted a basic triage for multiple casualty incident
- Head, neck and spinal injuries (using immobilisation principles)
- Seizure
- Located and interpreted workplace policies and procedures
- Simulated assessment environments must reflect the real-life working environment where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.
- Skills must be demonstrated working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry-validated scenarios and simulations to assess students’ skills and knowledge.
- It’s important that students have knowledge of the content of this course. The assessable practical tasks are listed below, showing what skills will be assessed.
- Determining workplace first aid requirements
- Completing workplace risk assessment/response plan
- Establishing and maintaining workplace first aid facilities
- Maintaining workplace first aid records
- Reviewing the provision of the first aid in the workplace
Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, completion of an incident report form and writing out first aid plans. The student must successfully complete all assessment questions
Initial Course duration:
- Mixed Mode: Completion of pre-course study plus 20 hours practical training
- Face to Face: 24 hours face to face training
Refresher Course duration:
- Mixed Mode: Completion pre-course study plus 12 hours practical training
- Face to Face: 24 hours face to face training
Online Delivery with face to face practical assessment
Self paced online learning with a minium scheduled 90 minuite face to face practical assessment
Important information regarding course durations:
Course durations, as mentioned above, are reflective of group sizes of between 4 and 15 participants. If there are less students in a group, you may find course duration reduced by a maximum of 10%. If a class size exceeds 15 participants it may therefore also be necessary to increase course duration depending on the number of participants.
